MBDance
Sweat Your Truth!

Maria Bauman began MBDance in 2007 to create honest and bold art from a sense of physical and emotional power, an insistence on equity, and a fascination with intimacy and relationship. In particular, MBDances center the non-linear and linear stories and bodies of queer people of color onstage, using dance as the wheel from which multiple other genres including visual art, text, and song are spokes.

The company has been in residence at various locations such as QuA ²D (Queens Academy of Arts & Dance), Gibney Dance Center, Brooklyn Arts Exchange, Virginia Commonwealth University, and Brooklyn College (CUNY Dance Initiative). We have performed across the world, from NYC SummerStage to Singapore to the My Body My Space Festival in Mpumalanga, South Africa.

We are currently creating (re)Source, an interdisciplinary and improvisatory work investigating lineage, maroonage, assets, and practices of both survival and whimsy.
